About
Deckle and Hide was created by Zoe Phillips to encompass all elements of her creative practice and provide a dynamic platform for creative facilitation.
Zoe is an artist, maker, creative practitioner, creative facilitator, workshop provider, inclusive artist, community artist and theatrical armoury consultant all rolled into one!
Deckle and Hide is her creative umbrella!
Zoe trained as a prop maker and has worked in theatre for over 20 years, 15 of those as a theatrical armourer.
True to the nature of a prop maker, Zoe’s practice is multidisciplinary.
She works with a variety of materials to respond to her clients briefs and in her own practice is equally as versatile. Zoe is inspired by museum aesthetics and traditional crafts. Her work examines themes of disability and accessibility, using objects to question societal perceptions and narratives.
Zoe has experience working with private clients and the public sector and works closely with each individual to ensure their brief, ideas and goals are tailored to their needs and budget.
Zoe devises and delivers educational workshops and inclusive and accessible arts workshops and has experience working with individuals with additional needs and PMLD.
Her passion for the arts, arts education and accessibility to the arts is infectious! Her ‘can do’ attitude and person-centred approach means the needs of her clients are always at the very heart of what she does.
In August Zoe gained a Distinction for her MA in Creative Practice, where she is explored the narrative of the object and the relationships we have with objects and artefacts. Her final MA exhibition was hosted by RHS Harlow Carr. Since graduating, Zoe has continued to explore working in porcelain. She won 3rd place in the SCAF Emerging Artist 2024 with ‘If I gave you a bowl’, with exhibition in Leeds.
2024 had also seen Zoe exhibit in York for the Micklegate Art Trail, Skipton Town Hall for Yorkshire Emerging Artists, and Knaresborough as part of FEVA.
